Intermittently, the teacher asks for verbal and nonverbal comprehension checks ("raise your hand", "thumbs up for "yes'", "thumbs down for "no", or thumb sideways for "not to sure". The teacher uses a variety of question types: Right There, Think and Search, On my own. This strategy can be used with all curriculum being taught. Depending on what nonverbal signal students give, the teacher can determine if he/she will need to go over the curriculum again (reteach), or continue with teaching the lesson. If there is only a few thumbs down being shown, the teacher can also decide to pull these particular students into a group and teach the lesson again.
